Mission
The Recreation Department's mission is to provide recreational opportunities, athletic programs, special events and recreational, educational and cultural classes for the residents of the City of Livingston.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Recreation Department is responsible for recreation programs, athletic programs, special events and recreational, educational and cultural classes that:
1. Encourage community spirit and fellowship. 2. Allow all players an equal opportunity to participate. 3. Instruct players in the development of their physical and mental capabilities. 4. Build good character and encourage team work. 5. Develop good sportsmanship. 6. Implement the principles of fair play. 7. Improve physical fitness. 8. Have fun!
City of Livingston Recreation programs include boy's baseball, girl's softball, youth basketball, youth soccer, swim team and adult coed softball. In addition to athletic programs, the Recreation Department is responsible for the summer swim programs at Livingston High School and Summer Day Camp at Campus Park Elementary.
Sports
Adult Sports / Coed Softball: The Recreation Department has made great efforts to build our adult softball program. We will be taking a break until the community shows interest in bringing it back. We are always looking for new activities to present to our adults!
Youth Sports: When children play, they are developing the physical, emotional, social and cognitive skills they need to succeed in life. Sport and recreation programs are the most common ways children participate in organized play.
Classes
By offering recreation classes our programs become more diverse. All of our classes are taught by contractors that specialize in the field they are teaching. Recreation sponsored classes include Kempo Karate, Ballet and seasonal summer programs. If you have a class you are interested in teaching please call the Recreation Department. Contract classes are a great way to earn extra money and teach what you love doing.
The Recreation Department is looking for contract instructors that can offer a specialty class to our community. If you are interested in becoming a contract instructor or you want to be placed on a class interest list, email recreation@livingstonca.gov.
