About the City Council
The City Council's mission is to protect the health, safety, and welfare of residents and to maintain, promote, and improve the quality of life in Livingston by adopting legislation and providing policy direction for the City organization through the City Manager.
Incorporated in 1922, Livingston is a general law city with a council–manager form of government. The five-member Council is elected to overlapping terms. The Mayor serves a two-year term and Council Members serve four-year terms. The Mayor presides over meetings, signs official documents, and serves as the City's official representative, but holds no more authority than any other Council Member. The Council sets strategic direction, adopts the annual budget, appoints members of boards and commissions, and represents Livingston on regional boards.
