Campaign Disclosure Filings

The Political Reform Act of 1974 requires public officials, whether elected or appointed, to file specified statements, reports, and other documents.

Assembly Bill 2151, approved September 28, 2020, added Government Code section 84616 to the Act. Effective January 1, 2021, local government agencies must post campaign statements and reports on their website within 72 hours of each applicable filing deadline. Before posting, the filing officer redacts street names, building numbers, and bank account numbers. Posted filings remain available for four years from the date of the associated election.

Campaign Contribution Limits

Assembly Bill 571, approved October 8, 2019, prohibits a person from contributing more to a candidate for elective county or city office, and prohibits the candidate from accepting more, than the state-office contribution limit set by the Act, effective January 1, 2021. Counties and cities may adopt their own contribution limits by ordinance or resolution.
